Knowles Esquire is Wright’s second dinnerware line that utilized patterned unlike his other dinnerware lines at the time, a more formal line with it’s matte finish and metallic gold pattern accents. While the Esquire line was short-lived, it was large, featuring several patterns and 20 shapes. Some of Wright’s most well-known and dramatic shapes can be found in Knowles Esquire – the deep compote bowl, the handleless creamer, the covered bowls with the flat lids, the Aladdin-esque teapot with it’s low slung shape and flat lid, just to name a few. While not practical for every day use, Esquire sets a distinctive and dramatic table.
